My photography career began when my oldest child was 2. I hardly had any decent pictures of her, and I was excepting another child! I started reaching out to photographers and having pictures taken more frequently! All along, I was so interested in taking the photos myself. I wanted to stand along side the photographers and watch!
NOT LONG AFTER my son was born, I took the plunge and bought my first DSLR.
I remember clearly thinking ‘I don’t need to hire a professional – I can do this myself’. Haha. It must have been the lack of sleep that got me thinking such crazy thoughts… because with no idea how to work this camera, lighting from a bedroom lamp and complete inexperience with newborn posing and safety, my sweet newborn’s portraits were pretty… uhh.. pretty bad! But, THAT was the moment I realized that this was for me! I loved being able to capture the tiny sweetness and wanted so badly to learn more and more about the art of photography. I knew that this was meant for me. Photography was my thing! It has now been almost 9 years since that ‘a-ha’ moment ! Let’s count down my top five reasons I love photographing children!

I don't know if y'all are like me, but I have all the patience in the world for your kids, but not my own. So when I show up to your session, and you are flustered because your daughter won't wear her bow, or your son doesn't want to wear those shoes I do everything in my power to distract your child from that, so I can discreetly slide that bow in her hair or tell him to put his shoes on so we can go look for bugs, or deer, or literally anything I can think of. I want your photos to be just as successful as my own family shoot. If I have to wait an extra 10 minutes so you can feed, or change a diaper, I am totally fine with that! ( who wouldn't be to be honest? )
Let me help you, to make your session all it can be!
Every child is different! That one joke that worked on him might not work on her, so here I am finding a new joke on the fly! Learning their little personalities and talking about things that they enjoy is my goal for every child! I want to learn about their favorite color, their favorite food, who can shake their booty better, mom or dad? There is NOTHING more rewarding than getting a smile out of a child that the mom swore would be impossible to do! Let me try my best, I accept the challenge!
I am constantly trying to brainstorm ideas to use for mini sessions, or to try out at your session! I blurt things out to get a rise out of kids constantly to capture pure raw emotions! The laughs make me laugh. This job has no limits, so my idea may not work but I am going to do everything in my power to try it at least once!
Ohhhh the newborn snuggles! Or those big strong hugs when I arrive! Ok, so my kids are too big for me to rock and ‘shuuuush’ to sleep. Maybe not the 5 year old but she is so independent I don't know how long that would last! I do miss those cuddles and snuggles with my own babies, and LOVE being able to snuggle your babies! That newborn smell, their peeling feet, their sweet noises, smiles during sleep… newborns are so beautiful and perfect, and I LOVE being able to hang out with these teeny beings! When their snotty noses wiped off my shirt when I pick them up to tickle them , or playing airplane to distract them that Passy that isn't very photogenic, I will always cherish all those sweet moments and one on one interactions!
The birth of a new baby… for me, will always be one of the most magical and special times in my life. The fact that I get to share in this time with new parents makes me so happy! Parents come to me sleep deprived, exhausted, but so full of love for their new baby. I get to be there for that! I get to experience a new mom shed a tear because she looks over to her baby that I am posing and is so in love, or the father that looks at his wife or partner with such awe and love for what they have just experienced together. These are moments that will always be happy and beautiful. How cool is that!
From fresh 48, to 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 years old, I get to capture your child in a way that a cell phone can't do! Being apart of moments your will cherish for years to come, makes my heart so happy!!
